“THE ART THAT MOVES”

A short film in the making, 2025

Our Principal, Jen, was recently successful in securing a ‘concept development’ grant to work with Filmmaker, Muraya Moore, to kickstart the proposal of making a short film to shine a spotlight on the value of community creative arts programs and older adults.

With thanks and gratitude to Arts Queensland and the City of Moreton Bay for the grant funding, they have created the following working title and concept! The Regional Arts Development Fund is a partnership between the Queensland Government and City of Moreton Bay to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.

THE ART THAT MOVES

‘Through the eyes of older Australians, the film explores how creative movement reshapes the ageing experience, challenging deep-seated cultural narratives about decline and embracing the vast potential for growth, connection and renewal at any age.’

Creative Producer: Jennifer Price

Director: Muraya Moore

In collaboration with other creative dance artists including (but not limited to) Jaime Redfern and the Australasian Dance Collective & Julie Chenery (Life Moves Dance).

The initial creative development process for this production was supported by funding from the Regional Arts Development Fund through Moreton Bay Regional Council

The Regional Arts Development Fund is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Moreton Bay Regional Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.

Here are some photos capturing our process. Our goal was to be able to offer the opportunity to encourage older people to be proactive in regards to their health and wellbeing through dance and creativity, evidence-based practice and a relational approach. The creative development workshops were aimed at refining our learnings of how to encourage older people to involve themselves in active, creative endeavours, and in turn, be seen and heard by their peers and other audiences alike.

A longer-term aim is to counter ageism and continue strengthening community inclusive of older people. We moved our bodies and explored shapes, angles, repetition, emotion, range of movement, and storytelling tableaus. We worked through dynamic trust exercises and experiences of physical boundaries and consent. We responded to verbal prompts, music, a live flautist and specific choreography. We moved through the space freely, to begin the process of discovering each participant's own unique expression through the body and making connections with each other!'

Julie and I were most grateful for the support from the RADF (Regional Arts Development Fund) to assist us in making this valuable start! Thank you to all the participants, contributers and the audience who came to see the final outcome of the show!
